If you're shopping for life insurance in Florida, the first decision isn't which policy to buy — it's which agent to trust. - "What AM Best ratings do your top-recommended carriers hold?" AM Best ratings (A++, A+, A, A-, etc.) measure a carrier's ability to pay claims decades from now. Stick with carriers rated A or better. An agent who can't recite the rating of the carrier they're recommending hasn't done the homework. A few patterns reliably indicate an agent isn't the right fit. Pressure to apply on the first call without comparing carriers is one. Refusal to provide a license number or carrier list in writing is another. Quotes that come back with a single carrier and no comparison alternatives — even after you've asked — usually mean the agent is captive without saying so.
